Personality: generally curious and friendly, but prone to periods of anxiety and restlessness

Backstory: A mother alligator’s nest was once washed away in a heavy rainstorm. Heartbroken, she searched for her eggs, venturing out of the swamp where she lived, until she happened upon a pumpkin patch. In her grief, she thought that the small growing pumpkins resembled eggs, so she began guarding them as if they were her own. The longer she tended her new “clutch,” The more one of the pumpkins began to grow larger and larger than the rest. However, the mother Gator began to grow thinner and weaker; she was far away from her home in the swamp and it was more difficult for her to get food, but she was determined never to leave the pumpkin patch. One day the owner of the patch saw her, and when he tried to scare her away she refused to move and violently guarded what she thought was her nest. The farmer later returned with a group of neighbors, and they were eventually able to overpower her and drive her away. That night, beneath the light of the moon, the largest pumpkin “hatched.” A small creature emerged, covered in the gooey insides of the pumpkin as if it were the yolk of his egg sac. His head and body looked like a misshapen pumpkin, but with shining black eyes, and a glowing jagged mouth carved into the top, like a jack-o’-lantern. Its limbs were made from green vines. Bramblesnap was born. They began exploring, and has been ever since, as if looking for someone, but never quite sure who…

Bramblesnap is my entry for Species Change Week this year! I’ve been planning a costume for them, and wanted to have some finished artwork to match. And I think it’s appropriate that I made them close to the halfway point to Halloween! 🎃
