7 Year Itch

· 1 min read My Art
A caption reads, "How do you beat the Seven Year Itch?" as Maiara the horse leans over Lark the bird with her hooves on his back as he says, "Oooh... Mmmm, that's good. Thanks, hon!" Then Maiara says, "Welcome. Now can you do my back next?" Lark looks down at his wings and looks uncertain and says, "Uhhhh..." Then we see Lark standing on one leg behind Maiara as he smiles and scratches her back with the claws on his other foot as she says, "Oh, right there! Harder! Aaaaah... That's good!" A caption at the bottom says, "It's the little things. Celebrating our 7th anniversary!"

I believe I said there would be a comic page out this week. But then my anniversary happened. No, I am not one of those stereotypical guys who forgets his wedding anniversary. I just overestimated how much work I’d be able to get done this weekend. So I beg to be excused!

So yes, it has been seven years since I married my sweetheart. (Awwww!) I actually had never heard of the “seven year itch” phenomenon until very recently. Apparently, it has to do with spouses feeling unsatisfied with their marriage around the seven-or-so year mark. I guess it’s a real thing; I won’t attempt to dismiss or minimize the struggles that anyone may have in their own marriage. But for us, it’s been nothing but a wonderful adventure!

In all seriousness, how do we beat the “Seven Year Itch?” It never really reared its head. I suppose I would credit that to both of us trying hard to talk with one another often, serve each other freely, and express love for each other both in public and private. That may not seem very profound or mindblowing. But it really is simple. Work? Yes. Worth it? Absolutely!

Thanks Hon, for the love, the laughs, and yes, the back-scratches!
